There is a vital role for women to play in the tourism industry. They are at the core of family and community and by empowering women from both urban and rural areas, real sustainability and poverty alleviation through tourism can be achieved.
It is with this in mind that RETOSA is running a medium-term project targeting women in tourism as well as bringing women-run tourism projects into the mainstream.
As a role player in the tourism industry, RETOSA would like to invite you to attend the second annual Southern African Women in Tourism Conference. It will be held from 22 – 25 November at the President Walmont Hotel in Lilongwe, Malawi.
The main objective of the conference will be to report back on the progress made so far on prioritised projects and programmes and to discuss the establishment of a Regional Tourism Investment Fund for Women. A highlight of the conference is going to be the Master Class Course in Tourism Business Management, which will be available to all the delegates.
The official opening and keynote address will be given by the Malawian Minister of Information, Tourism and Civic Education, the Honourable Japipe Mhango, MP. He will be introduced by Mrs E Tembo, the Permanent Secretary for Tourism Malawi. Mr Simba Mandinyenya, the Acting Executive Director of RETOSA, will welcome the delegates and give the introduction to the Women in Tourism Conference while Dr Dimakatso Malwela, Chairperson of Women in Tourism, will also welcome the delegates and report back on the progress made by the Women in Tourism Steering Committee. During the conference, members of the Steering Committee as well as various experts in the tourism industry will be focusing on current issues affecting women in tourism and ways forward.
We invite you to come and be a part of this exciting initiative!
