Sven Lindblad, the Head of the Lindblad Group, has been appointed Cultural Ambassador of Seychelles. The presentation of the official document of his accreditation was made by Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, during a dinner function on Saturday, April 11, at the residence of Sir James Mancham, the founding President of the Republic of Seychelles.
Also present at the ceremony were Ambassador Maurice Loustau-Lalanne, the PS for Foreign Affairs, and Benjamine Rose, the PS for Culture at the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, among other friends of the Lindblad Group.
When he addressed the dinner function, Minister Alain St.Ange said that the Lindblad Group had been involved with the development of tourism in Seychelles from day one. Lars Eric Lindblad and Sonia Lindblad, the parents of Sven Lindblad are recognized as pioneers of the Seychelles tourism industry. In the 70s they had the Lindblad Explorer cruise ship positioned in Seychelles operating a positive cruise ship business for the islands. The Lindblads also owned and managed Lindblad Travel that was to become Travel Services Seychelles with among their other ships based in the islands was the two-masted luxury schooner “Dwyn Wen.”
Today the Lindblads are back in Seychelles with their latest ship, the National Geographic Orion, with 102 guests in 53 cabins, including several with balconies. The ship will be stopping at Aldabra before arriving at Port Victoria just ahead of the official of 2015 edition of the annual Carnaval International de Victoria on April 23.
“Tourism started in earnest when people ventured beyond their own borders to see cultural and historical sites of interests. This is what the Lindblad Group was doing when they added Seychelles onto their list of must-visit destinations. As we welcome back the Lindblad Group, this time through Sven Lindblad, the head of the organization, we say thank you for your support and for flying our flag high. Seychelles is a tourism destination where its culture has been positioned at the base of its tourism development, and it is with this ‘tourism through culture’ tag line that we have the pleasure to appoint you Cultural Ambassador for the Seychelles,” said Minister Alain St.Ange.
