Seeking the opinion of Alliance members

A brief recap

The Sustainable Tourism Certification Alliance Africa (“the Alliance”) was supported by SECO funding for a four year period (2012 – 2015).  This funding came to an end at the beginning of 2016. The various valiant efforts of the EXCO and Executive to raise follow-up financing for the network were sadly not successful.  Hence, the Alliance became dormant, though the hope of reactivating the network in the event of being able to raise funds for future activities remained. You may also recall an email from Manuel Bollmann (then of FTT) in October 2017 (yes, a full year ago!) with six questions aimed at gauging interest in keeping the Alliance alive.  There was sufficient interest from a small group of people to continue working in the background.  Thank you to everyone who stepped up to the plate.

The current state of play

Better Tourism Africa has offered to host the secretariat on a temporary basis until April 2019 and is now managing the Alliance communication channels.  The primary aim is to provide a platform for members to jointly determine a way forward for the Alliance.  We will use four main mechanisms:

  • A survey of Alliance members
  • A working group of volunteers, convened by the Secretariat and tasked to create a discussion document with options for raising finances to fund future activities of the Alliance
  • An Alliance meeting at the GSTC2018 conference, 7 – 10 December 2018, Maun, Botswana (see below)
  • An Alliance meeting at WTM Africa, April 2019, Cape Town, South Africa or Indaba, May 2019, Durban, South Africa

Our request to members

For now, we’re asking signed-up members to decide whether they want to remain informed about and involved in the Alliance. If your answer is:

NO: Please unsubscribe from the Alliance member listPlease note: Doing so will indicate that you no longer wish to be a member of the Alliance, and you will no longer receive member e-mails. Although you’ll still be able to access general information about the Alliance on the Website,  you will not be able to access the member only section.

YES: Please click on this link “Have your say” to answer five short questions about the future of the Alliance and how you’d like to be involved. Please also join our meeting at GSTC2018 Conference.

Thank you for taking the time to think this through and making a choice.
