The Sustainable Tourism Partnership Programme (STPP) will host Eskom-supported workshops for owners of B&Bs, lodges and guest-houses in Beaufort West, Knysna, Graaff-Reinet and Colesburg. The workshops aim to empower the accommodation establishments to build more energy-efficient and eco-friendly businesses.
They are being held in partnership with The National Accommodation Association of South Africa, Nedbank, Eskom and Loads of Living (Hospitality Collection). Specialist speakers will provide an overview of responsible tourism, discuss challenges faced by the industry, highlight opportunities for collaboration within each geographical location, and offer practical solutions and action plans to improve sustainability and profitability. An Eskom energy Adviser will outline the funding benefits of the company’s rebates programme in support of the hospitality industry.
“The workshops allow Eskom to increase awareness of energy-efficient technologies and solutions in the hospitality industry and to assist owners to reduce energy usage and cut operating costs. Eskom has a range of rebate programmes specifically developed to fund B&B, guest house and lodge owners who plan to switch from energy-intensive technologies to energy-efficient solutions in their establishments,” said Andrew Etzinger, Senior General Manager, Integrated Demand Management department, Eskom.
“Through these workshops we want to provide practical advice on energy efficiency to the hospitality industry, and enable owners of small establishments to power their businesses through optimal energy usage and reduced costs per room,” continued Etzinger. Attendance at the workshops is free. All owners of B&Bs, guesthouses and lodges are encouraged to attend.
Workshops take place in Beaufort West on March 25, in Knysna on March 26, in Graaff-Reinet on March 27 and Colesburg on March 28.
